E. Downloading Data

  • If you are not already there, go to the SCOOP Website
  • Go to the Data page
  • Search for the storm name Katrina in the year 2005
  • Notice all 4 icons are now available Image:all icons.png
  • Look through the 3 icons that have already been described
  • Click on the wave icon which is the data link for this storm
  E1. How many collections for this storm are found?
  • Look at the list of collections
  • By clicking on one of the collections, it will bring up the SCOOP Catalog Search Details Page which we already visited
  • Go back to the list of collections
  • Check the box next the collection named University of Florida CH3D01 Surge Model (CH3D only) Charlotte Harbor Output -forced by UFL Analytical Winds (about halfway down the page)
  • Click the submit button at the bottom of the page
  • This brings you to the SCOOP Data Availability Page which describes instructions to obtain data and the number and size of files
  • Notice you could get data from either the LSU or TAMU archives
  • Click on the icon with the blue arrow at the end of the line describing the time the files are available from Texas A&M University (TAMU) Image:Get Files Icon.JPG
  • This will bring you to the list of the files available in that collection from the TAMU catalog
  • Click on the icon with the blue arrow next to the third file named SCH3CH01-UFL_WANAFe06-UFL_20050823T1200_20050823T0600_20050828T1800_12gsr1_Z.nc.gz that will allow you to download the file Image:Download File Icon.jpg
  • The file size is 29.81 MiB, be sure your computer has enough room to continue with the downloading process
  • Save the file where you will be able to access it again (you could create a file named SCOOP or SCOOP tutorial)
  • Download anymore files that seem interesting to you and save them for later use
