For many of the following sections, you will be asked to use the Grid Appliance to visualize data. To use the Grid Appliance, you must first have VMware installed on your computer. VMware is software that creates a Virtual Machine (VM) or virtual computer on your real computer. This virtual computer can carry out similar functions as your own computer. VMware is the specific VM we will be using throughout this tutorial. Once VMware is downloaded, the Grid Appliance can be downloaded. The Grid Appliance is a self-configuring Virtual Machine appliance. For our purposes, we will download three different Grid appliances which will be used for different purposes. In the following sections, you will be directed to links that might help you understand the Grid appliance better. You will also learn how to download VMware and the three other Grid appliances.
