This lesson will teach you how to open the Grid appliance. Future sections will explain how it can be used.

Starting Grid Appliance

  • Go to the SCOOP folder you created in the G. Downloading and Installing lesson
  • Open the grid appliance folder
  • Click on Grid Appliance VMware configuration file to launch the grid appliance
  • Click on "Start this virtual machine"
  • Wait for the virtual machine to load {it might take a couple minutes)
  • Once it is fully loaded, commands can be typed in to carry out different functions

Accessing Grid Appliance through your Browser

  • Open your browser outside of the grid appliance (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.)
  • For the web address, enter in http://gridappliance
    • Note: the Appliance web address http://gridappliance works in most Windows machines, but in some configurations it does not. If your browser does not recognize http://gridappliance, you will need to enter in a numeric Web address of the form http://www.xxx.yy.zzz (Where www.xxx.yy.zzz is the 4-digit IP address displayed in the xmessage box at the top left of the appliance window)
    • Note also that the Grid Appliance must be turned on to be able to access this address

Closing Grid Appliance

  • Go back to the VMware window
  • Right click on the grid appliance tab at the top of the screen and select power off
  • This will bring you back to the main menu
  • You can now close the Virtual Machine appliance

In the following sections you will learn how this Grid appliance can be used to carry out different functions.
