For VMWare VMs - Here is a brief summary, for additional details refer to the Grid appliance tutorial:

• Download and install VMware Player or VMware Server
• Download the Grid Appliance
• Extract the zip file and navigate into the "Grid Appliance" directory
• Find GridAppliance.vmx and double click it

Other VMs - If you are using VirtualBox, check VirtualBox_How_To for instructions
